In this article, we tell you more about:

Overview of personalizations

In the overview you can see all existing personalizations. You find information and statistics about personalization and you can perform different actions:

Customize time frame and attribution window

With the attribution window you determine the period in which the attributable events are linked to the attribution event. At Personalizations you can choose one of the following options:

Timeframe.png

  • None: when the attribution event comes in after the attributable events, it is attributed as a conversion of the personalization.
  • 1 day view, 7 day click: when the attribution event arrives within one day after the PersonalizationView or seven days after the PersonalizationClick it is attributed as a conversion of the personalization.
  • 7 day view, 28 day click: when the attribution event arrives within seven days after the PersonalizationView or 28 days after the PersonalizationClick this is attributed as conversion of the personalization.

Prioritizing

The prioritization for displaying the personalizations is determined based on the ranking. It is possible to change the priority of your personalizations by dragging them to the list. The personalization at the top of the list will be evaluated first and will be shown to the user if another personalization is targeted at the same user.

A new personalization

To set up a new personalization, go through the following steps:

  • Step 1  Select template
  • Step 2  Setting up template
  • Step 3  Settings personalization

Klik op New Personalization om de stappen te doorlopen.

Step 1 Select template

You start by selecting a template in which to format the personalization. There are several options.

Select a template.png

  • Website overlay templates: create a personalized overlay on your website. Overlays are a useful tool for communicating with your Web site visitors. They can appear on top of your regular Web site content to communicate promotions or messages you want to target specific groups of visitors. Overlays can also be used as forms to collect data from your Web site visitors.
  • Website embedded templates: create a personalized block embedded in your website. Website Embedded Personalizations allow you to customize elements of your website for specific audiences. For example, you can show a product from a product set to a specific group of visitors on a page.
  • Upload a template: upload your own template.
  • Email templates (only available for Mailjet, Pure 360 and Mailchimp): Email personalization is a formatted product set that can be used in Mailjet. When using another ESP, this option is not available. In the email personalization you can define the following settings:

Step 2 Setting up template

Website overlay templates

You have several types to choose from:

Select a template.png

  • Overlay: an overlay that can contain text, an image and action button. Example of a shoe promotion:

    Overlay designer.webp

  • Feedback form: an overlay with input fields to collect information from your visitors. Under Content, you add fields to the form. Any value entered by the visitor is stored in their Spotler Activate profile.

    Feedback form.webp

  • Toaster: a small overlay with a title and a few lines of text. An example:

    Toaster.webp

  • Notification bar: an overlay that is screen wide to show notifications. An example:

    Notification bar.webp

  • Custom: an overlay that you can code yourself. More information about this you can read in the article: How do I measure the success of my personalizations?

Website embedded templates

Website Embedded Personalizations allow you to customize elements of your website for specific audiences. For example, you can show a product from a product set to a particular group of visitors on a page.

Step 3 Settings personalizations

Control group.png

  • Name: the name of the personalization and attach certain labels to the personalization.

Labels are color codes that you can attach to personalizations for a better overview. Click on the following icon to manage labels:
    Name.png
Then you can select or create labels. The labels of personalizations are visible in the personalization overview:
    Label.png
  • Distribution: the distribution of variants. Once you have created variants, you can set up experiments against a control group. The control group is your original page, without personalization. By default, the setting is set to Equal distribution between variants.
    Distribution.png
    • Equal distribution between variants: an equal distribution between the variants.

    • Custom percentages: you can manually set the distribution between the variants.

    • Automatic adjustment based on performance: the distribution automatically adjusts itself based on the conversion of the variants. For more information about the operation and conditions, see the tooltip.

It is possible to set percentages or distribution based on performance. Why are variants not distributed equally?

  • Audience: the audience the personalization is intended for.

    Note!
Users visiting the website for the first time or using a device where the cookie is not recognized are not yet directly in one of the checked audiences upon first page landing. To ensure that personalizations do not flicker, we make sure that personalizations are loaded as quickly as possible. Only after all personalizations are loaded, we check which audiences the website visitor should be added to. Therefore, they only see the personalization after refreshing the page. If it is important that personalizations are always shown on the page immediately after landing, we recommend implementing a ReloadPersonalization event on these pages.

    Audience selecteren.png

Note include audience! If you have both an intelligent audience and an include audience checked, then there is an OR rule between them. In other words: if a profile is in an intelligent audience OR in an include audience, the personal information will be shown.

    IP-targeting
You can target the personalization to profiles that are within a certain IP address zone. This can be at the city or country level:.
    IP.png

  • Included urls: In the urls settings, you can determine which urls and devices the personalization will or will not be triggered on.

    Include urls.png

    Ignore query parameters
When checked, all query parameters in a url are ignored.

For example, if you want to trigger personalization on the homepage, and a profile comes to the homepage via an email, it will often say something like https://squeezely.tech/?source=email. Anything after /? is ignored if this option is checked.

  • Trigger: set when the trigger should take place.

    Trigger.png

    • Immediately: the personalization is triggered immediately.

    • Product event with data: the personalization is triggered when the desired product information matches the product information of the product id from the event.

    • When event is fired: the personalization is triggered if the selected event is triggered and the profile has the required profile fields.
    • Exit intent: the personalization is triggered when a profile on desktop moves the cursor to the cross. This setting does not work on mobile.

    • After X seconds: the personalization is triggered after a certain number of seconds.

    • When scrolled to X %: the personalization is triggered when a profile has scrolled down a certain percentage of the web page.

  • Attribution: with attribution you determine which event is counted as a conversion for the personalization, for example Purchase or EmailOptIn.

With the attribution window you determine the period in which the attributable events are linked to the attribution event. At Personalizations you can choose one of the following options:

    Attribution.png

  • Schedule: schedule when the personalization should take place. With the date selection you can trigger the personalization between certain dates. The dayparting allows you to trigger the personalization at certain times of the day.
    dayparting.png
  • Frequency cap: specify how often the personalization may be triggered in X number of days (per profile).

    Frequency cap.png

Email template

Content
The content settings consist of:
Content_email.png

  • Variant name: the name of the variant
  • Product set: The product set that will be shown in the personalization with the extra options:
    • Min. product amount: the minimum number of products that should be in the product set to show the personalization.
    • Max. product amount: the maximum number of products to be displayed in the personalization.

Display
In the display settings you can adjust the styling of the personalization and process the information from Spotler Activate:

Display Email.png

In the description you process the desired information. By clicking on the Help button you can view the available options.

Note: By clicking on the eye you can make certain content invisible.

Additional options

In the additional options you can do the following:
Additional options_Email.png

  • UTM tags: add an utm tag to links that are embedded in the personalization.

  • Edit template: by clicking this button you can edit the template.

  • Reset template: by clicking this button you can reset the template.

  • Export template: by clicking this button, you can export the template as XML file.

cssPrefix

In many cases, it happens that the CSS in Spotler Activate personalizations is overwritten by CSS on the website. The CSS on the website then has a higher priority than the Spotler Activate personalization templates. To prevent this, you can apply cssPrefix so that the CSS of the personalization ID is dynamically loaded.

In this example, the personalization is shown in the variant builder preview with the correct CSS:

Input 1.png
But in the website preview, the CSS is replaced, so the input field no longer matches:
Input 2.png

To solve this, you can apply cssPrefix to additional CSS:

Control group

When you want to test different variants you use a Control group. Testing is possible in different ways, for example, you can use different headings and texts.
