To set-up your Spotler Activate account, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Add tracking code (Front-end tracking)
- Step 2: Connect your systems (Back-end tracking)
- Step 3: Create events
- Step 4: Load products
Step 1: Add tracking code
In order for Spotler Activate to function, it is required to place a tracking code on your website. With The Spotler Activate Tracker, on the basis of cookies the following will start:
- New profiles are created
- Returning profiles are recognized
- Events are linked to profiles: the trackers adds default events to your account.
You will find your account specific tracking code in Settings > Setup guide.
The two most frequently used ways to implement this tracking code on your website are:
- Via Google Tag Manager: How do I add the tracking code to Google Tag Manager?
- Manually: Place the tracking code on your website in the section of the <Head></Head> HTML.
Step 2: Back-end tracking
This step is only applicable if you want to send data from other systems directly to Spotler Activate. Such as a webshop that shares event data (such as purchases) and products. This step is not required, Spotler Activate can also be used with front-end tracking only.
The two most frequently used ways for back-end tracking are:
- Use Spotler Connect. By using only the Spotler Connect connector you get access to all pre-set connections with common systems at once.
- API custom back-end tracking
Step 3: Create events
You need to create Spotler Activate events based on the events from your websites data layer.
- By setting up the tracking code on the website, some default events are automatically received.
- Next to these, we strongly recommend you to create the following mandatory events: ViewContent, Purchase and AddToCart. These events are mandatory because you need them to use the most essential features in Spotler Activate.
- There are many other examples of events and also an option to create custom events. You can do this immediately, but also add it at a later time.

Step 4: Load products
Your product feed needs to be loaded into Spotler Activate. When the products are shared, this feed can be used to fill e.g. recommendations based on interactions or to fill an Abandoned Store Automation.
You can choose different ways to load your product feed. Go to Products > Sources and check the corresponding Help Center Article Sources.
Optional steps
The above steps are required for basic use of Spotler Activate. The richer the profiles, the more value you can get from your personalizations and journeys. Therefore, there are these optional setup steps to enrich profiles:
